Ballet & Contemporary

What is a contemporary dance class? It is a class that takes the best of all dance styles, uses fun and interesting music while connecting the creative mind with the moving body. This introductory class will be stimulating and exploratory and will introduce classical and modern dance concepts to the young dancer. Moving through a warm-up of technique and body concepts, across the floor dance steps, and finally ending with choreography, improvisation, and dance games students will be sure to have a blast in this class!

*Ballet 1 is a recommended class to accompany this class.

Combining the technique of classical training with the expansiveness of modern and jazz dance, this contemporary dance class will move through a warm-up of technique, floor exercises, strength training, across-the-floor choreography, and ultimately a final choreographic piece. The importance of axis, alignment, balance, and musicality are emphasized in every class.

Hair should be pulled back in a braid, ponytail, or bun.
Dress should be leggings and a tight fitting top.

Two days a week!

Combining the technique of classical training with the expansiveness of modern and jazz dance, this class will move through a warm-up of technique, floor exercises, strength training, across-the-floor choreography, and ultimately a final choreographic piece. The importance of axis, alignment, balance, and musicality are emphasized in every class. This fast-moving class also has opportunities for being part of the dance troupe which performs in the community.

A stimulating and exploratory dance class that will introduce classical ballet and contemporary dance concepts. Moving at an easy pace for young dancers, this class will cover basic ballet positions of the lower and upper body, flexibility and stretching exercises, musicality, and simple ballet and contemporary steps both stationary and crossing the floor. The class will culminate with simple choreography and dance games. *Dance Attire: Pink or purple leotard with pink, nude, or white tights. Ballet shoes required and hair in ponytail, braid or bun.

A stimulating and exploratory dance class that will introduce classical dance concepts. Moving at an easy pace for young dancers, this class will cover basic ballet positions of the lower and upper body, flexibility and stretching exercises, musicality, and simple ballet and contemporary steps both stationary and crossing the floor. The class will culminate with simple choreography set to music.

*Contemporary 1 is a recommended additional class

Please wear a pink leotard and “ballet pink” tights, either footless or convertible style, and pink ballet slippers. Boys in black tights, black pants, or bike shorts with a white shirt and black ballet slippers.
Hair must be pulled back in a braid or bun.

Ballet: This class will introduce dancers to the magical world of classical dance. With an introduction to a technical ballet curriculum, this class will focus on barre work, center, and across-the-floor movement for strength, balance, flexibility, and grace. *Please wear hair pulled back in ponytail, bun, or braids. Please wear a light blue leotard and pink or white tights, footless or convertible. Ballet shoes are mandatory.
This ballet portion of the class will focus on alignment, posture, and classical ballet technique. The class begins at the barre, then moves into center work, and then dancers move across the floor. Students will also learn classical ballet choreography from some of our favorite ballets to strengthen not only their bodies but their mind. Clear explanations of exercises and theory help students use the ballet vocabulary in a simple, practical way that leads to increased technical understanding, healthy physical development, and lifelong enjoyment. Students with strong ballet technique, sufficient core and ankle strength, and a teacher’s recommendation go on to study ‘en pointe’. Light or Dark Purple leotard with pink or white tights. Ballet shoes are mandatory. Hair should be pulled back in a braid, ponytail, or bun.
Class begins with work at the barre to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, culminating in a grand allegro combination or variation. Clear explanations of exercises and theory help students use the ballet vocabulary in a simple, practical way that leads to increased technical understanding, healthy physical development, and lifelong enjoyment. Students with strong ballet technique, sufficient core and ankle strength, and a teacher’s recommendation go on to study ‘en pointe’ *This class is required for enrollment in Contemporary 4 **Please wear a black leotard and tights. Ballet slippers are required. Hair pulled back in a ponytail or bun.
A beginners level pointe class wherein students will work at the barre and center to introduce an intermediate or advanced level ballet student to pointe work. Emphasis will be placed on ankle strengthening and improving flexibility. Requirements: Minimum of 2 years of ballet experience and also enrolled in at least one ballet class a week. Instructor approval. Tights: Pink or White. Pointe shoes or ballet slippers if in pre-pointe.
Come and experience the joy of ballet as an adult! Our Adult Ballet Class welcomes dancers of all levels, providing a nurturing space for exploration, growth, and appreciation of the art form. Join us and discover the transformative power of ballet in a supportive community of fellow ballet enthusiasts. The class begins with a thorough warm-up to prepare the body for ballet movements. Gentle stretches and conditioning exercises aim to improve flexibility, strengthen core muscles, and promote body awareness. This segment focuses on developing proper alignment, posture, and balance.The core of the Adult Ballet Class focuses on ballet technique and skills. Students will learn and practice fundamental positions, movements, and combinations. Emphasis is placed on correct body alignment, coordination, and fluidity of movement.
*13 weeks, 1 Saturday off a month. A stimulating and exploratory dance class that will introduce classical and contemporary dance concepts. Moving at an easy pace for young dancers, this class will cover basic ballet positions of the lower and upper body, flexibility and stretching exercises, musicality, and simple ballet and tap steps both stationary and crossing the floor. The class will culminate with simple choreography and dance games. *Dance Attire: Pink or purple leotard with pink, nude, or white tights. Ballet shoes and tap shoes are required. Hair in ponytail, braid or bun.
*13 weeks, 1 Saturday off a month. A combination of ballet and tap basics. This class is a great introduction to rhythm, tempo, and musicality in tap while building on skills and foundations of ballet. Attire: Pink or Purple leotard, with “ballet pink” tights, pink ballet slippers and black tap shoes. Boys in black tights, leggings, or bike shorts with a white shirt, black ballet slippers and black tap shoes. Hair must be pulled back in a braid or bun.
*13 weeks, 1 Saturday off a month. Tap basics. This class is a great introduction to rhythm, tempo, and musicality, while building on skills and foundations of tap dancing. Parent & child duo’s are welcome! You can both sign up for the class! *Attire: Cool, comfortable clothing that is easy to move in (no jeans). Tap shoes are required, and take some time to come in. You can tap in socks or bare feet until then 🙂

Other Dance Classes

One of the most popular and well known forms of dance, jazz includes strength, flexibility, conditioning, and progressions: including turns, kicks and leaps. This class will focus on learning proper dance techniques such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions and combinations.
Each class emphasizes musicality, performance and dynamics while motivating students to maintain a positive classroom environment. Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. *Sneakers required
No previous experience needed! Each class emphasizes musicality, performance and dynamics while motivating students to maintain a positive classroom environment. In this class, you’ll learn the fundamental techniques of breakdancing, including toprock, footwork, freezes, and power moves. Evan will break down each move step-by-step, ensuring clarity and a solid foundation. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience, this class is designed to take your breakdancing skills to new heights, allowing you to go from performing basic steps to exploring intricate combinations. This class will also help to improve musicality, rhythm, coordination and overall style. Beyond the physical aspect, the class will foster creativity, self-expression and confidence.
Learn to move your body to the music and feel comfortable on the dance floor. Simple exercise to get your blood pumping and feet moving! No experience necessary. A fun class filled with dance games, improvisation exercises and guided movements. *No dance experience needed.

Aerials

Aerial Silks is a beautiful, creative, and challenging art form that builds unparalleled upper body and core strength, kinesthetic awareness, coordination, and confidence. Beginners will learn basic acrobatic floor skills that translate to skills on the fabric including forward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels. On the silks, students will learn basic climbs, foot-locks, hip keys, and sequences starting low to the ground. Once proficiency of skill is established, students will move high into the air on the aerial fabric.
*Must have at least 1 year of experience (two semesters) on Aerial Silks with PDI or permission from the instructor. The student must also be able to climb 3 feet off the ground, and be comfortable going upside down. Beginners will learn basic acrobatic floor skills that translate to skills on the fabric including forward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels. *Must have taken 2 semesters of Aerial 2 or have instructor approval. More intermediate and advanced students will improve their basic floor skills that translate to skills on the fabric including forward and backward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels. On the silks, students will expand their repertoire with creative climbs, foot-locks, hip keys, drops, cross-back straddles, and sequences starting low to the ground. Once proficiency of skill is established, students will move high into the air on the aerial fabric! Students must have taken silks before, be able to climb to the top of the fabric comfortably and do a straddle up in the air. ** Students are asked to bring their own yoga mat from home for the conditioning portion of the class

Aerial Silks and Acrobatics 1 is for students ages 13 and up! Teens & Adults are welcome! This class will explore different climbs, descents, and tricks, all while learning proper technique and execution. Expect to gain strength, flexibility, confidence in the air, and a fun new talent! **Students are asked to bring their own yoga mat from home for the conditioning portion of the class.
Aerial Silks Open Gym is available to advanced aerialists looking to improve their practice. This is an open gym– not a class– which means students are self-directed, and Kat will not be teaching new skills. Kat will be present to lead warm-ups, demonstrate, collaborate, provide guidance, and supervise for safety. Pair Open Gym with Aerial Silks 3 or 4 class to further your skills! Students will be required to demonstrate basic skills on the fabric and be able to train without a teacher’s guidance. If students choose to learn skills off the internet, they must be working with at least one other student on the same move, and that video must be presented to Kat prior to attempting the move *Requirements to participate: Has completed Aerial Silks 3 or 4, or approval from a PDI Aerial teacher.
Find your joy in the art of the dance trapeze! In this class, you will be exploring new and exciting ways to climb, hang upside-down, balance, and discover your center of gravity in many different poses. You will learn how to incorporate these poses with movements such as swinging, spinning, and flowing gracefully between combinations. This class will encourage you to build your strength, set goals for your progression, and find the freedom to explore your own unique style of self-expression. *Class attire is fitted pants or leggings (no baggy material or zippers), leotard or shirt that can be tucked in, hair back, and no jewelry.
An advanced trapeze class for students who have had three or more years of trapeze. In this class, you will continue to build your strength and control while learning more technical poses and sequences. You will be enjoying the feeling of flying when you add the movements of spinning, swinging, and wide circles. Explore new ways of making this dynamic art form into your own creative expression. This class will incorporate partner work on the trapeze, as well as individual choreography.
This class is for the dedicated performing arts student who wants to be onstage and hone their performance skills. We will work with acting and dance techniques, improvisation exercises, and choreography. Each class will include ample time to perform for each other in order to build confidence, technique, and the ability to give and use feedback for self-improvement. Students enrolled in this class must be enrolled in at least one other technique class.

Keiki Classes

A fun and energetic class that uses imagery, music, and shapes to get the young body moving. Learn body coordination plus musicality and rhythmic awareness, improvisation, and basic dance steps in this class. A great introduction to the world of dance! *Parents are encouraged to join in!
This class is designed with the homeschooled family in mind, and is not your typical dance class. Miss Mandy homeschooled her 2 girls for 3 years, and will be focusing on social interactions, group participation and movement. She has critters she frequently brings to class to enhance the learning experience. This year, our homeschool PE classes will run for 16 weeks, and will have an option to perform in our Winter Showcase! WOO HOO! Each class will consist of 30 minutes of creative movement (dance basics), and 25 minutes of social games. Dance genres include jazz, ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, cheer and contemporary. *Attire: Please wear cool comfortable clothing, no jeans. Come and play with us!

Theatre & Song

An introductory acting class that focuses on building the character, improvisational skills, and ensemble work.

Class will be structured to include acting games, technique, collaborative story telling with a focus on devised theatre which is the process of collaboratively creating a new work without a pre-existing script.

This class will cover a variety of material using various techniques such as Meisner, Method, and Stanislavsky. Scene work, improv, and monologue development will be the focus of the class, with the goal of providing students with a portfolio of work to use in developing their craft, and also for audition purposes. Classic, modern, and original work will be explored, in a workshop environment of creating, critique, and improve.

Students will be given parts for an original show that will be performed in May, thus we highly encourage that students commit to both Fall and Spring semesters.

Singing, rhythm, and movement will all be taught in this music class for young singers. Students will be given an opportunity to dance around and sing their hearts out as they learn important singing fundamentals like volume, mouth shape, and body position. This class is designed instill a love for music in students who love to sing but who aren’t quite ready to sit down and read a song song sheet. *No reading skills required.
Glee and Musical Theater are now combined in one class! If you like the fun songs and vibe of Glee class, combined with technique for the stage, then you will love this class! A fun combination of pop and musical theater songs will inspire our choreography and character development. Level 1 will perform in the Winter show, and Level 2 will perform in May. Please have black sneakers, jazz shoes, or jazz sneakers for the performance. Bare feet, socks, or dance shoes for class. *Please have hair pulled back for class, and wear comfortable clothes for dancing – no jeans.
Glee and Musical Theater are now combined in one class! If you like the fun songs and vibe of Glee class, combined with technique for the stage, then you will love this class! A fun combination of pop and musical theater songs will inspire our choreography and character development. Level 1 will perform in the Winter show, and Level 2 will perform in May. Please have black sneakers, jazz shoes, or jazz sneakers for the performance. Bare feet, socks, or dance shoes for class. *Please have hair pulled back for class, and wear comfortable clothes for dancing – no jeans.

Fitness

Pilates is a movement technique utilized to improve strength, flexibility, balance, muscular endurance, and the connection between the mind and body.

Pilates pays special focus to the core muscles that surround the spine and pelvis, and implements exercises that combine strengthening and mobility work to create lengthened, flexible muscles.

Ideal for dancers, athletes, or anyone who wants to improve their posture.

This hour long fitness class will focus on using a variety of movement to strengthen, mobilize, balance, and energize the body. Using fundamentals from a variety of styles including Pilates, yoga, barre postural correction, Functional Range Conditioning, students will learn how to properly align their bodies while improving muscular function. Open to all levels. Please bring your own yoga mat.
